Nerve pain is also known by the name neuropathic pain or neuralgia. Nerve pain is caused due to the damage or disease that directly affects the person’s nervous system. Neuralgia is a chronic pain condition. It is usually caused as a result ofan accident or any severe disease. It is a pain that comes from the signals that are sent by the nervous system.

  • Antidepressant drugs: Antidepressant drugs are one of the most effective methodsfor treating neuropathic pain. Tricyclic antidepressants and serotonin noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors are the two most common drugs prescribed.
  • Nerve blocks: Under nerve blocks, the physician may inject you with steroids or anesthetics into the nerves that send pain signals. They are temporary and needs to be repeated at regular intervals.
  • Implanting a device: In this procedure, the doctor implants a device in your body. This device sends impulses to the nerves which stop irregular nerve signals.
